Abstract

The author has written a book entitled Icelanders Arrive and Strive - A Manitoba Story that has just been published by FriesenPress.

This book deals with the emigration of Icelanders to North America in the 1870s and the founding of New Iceland and its capital Gimli in Manitoba and should be of interest to Icelanders, descendants of Icelanders, Manitobans and even Canadians in general.

The book begins with a brief history of early Viking exploits worldwide then relates the story of the large Icelandic emigration centering on the author's great grandparents who took a leadership role in this fascinating saga.

The author has been asked to write an article briefly describing the book, how it came to be written, and how it can be obtained.
