Abstract

“Mr. D’s Christmas Trees” is a heartfelt narrative poem celebrating the bond between two children and their beloved Uncle D, a joyful and nurturing figure who filled their lives with wonder, learning, and shared traditions. Through the metaphor of a cherished Christmas tree on his woodland farm, the poem explores themes of growth, protection, and the enduring presence of loved ones. When the great tree eventually falls, its loss mirrors the sorrow of losing someone deeply loved. Yet from the space it leaves behind grows a new sapling, symbolizing resilience, renewal, and the continuation of love in new forms. Ultimately, the poem offers a gentle lesson: even in loss, there is room for new beginnings, and what feels like being buried may simply be the start of being replanted.
